People need to understand it's not just about posting to your social media for donations either.

Dr. Letitia Wright
Host of Wright Place TV Show
and Crowd Funding ExpertDr. Wrighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15809115987232853824noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3522311.post-18611363101379492032012-05-03T17:09:44.601-04:002012-05-03T17:09:44.601-04:00Thanks Zen. One quick reaction is that your argument for crowdfunding seems like it's also an argument for national funding agencies to adopt an NSERC Discovery Grant-type funding model. I've discussed this possibility over on the Oikos blog:

http://oikosjournal.wordpress.com/2011/05/16/should-granting-agencies-fund-projects-or-people/

http://oikosjournal.wordpress.com/2011/06/28/evidence-that-granting-agencies-should-fund-people-not-projects/

http://oikosjournal.wordpress.com/2012/01/14/the-scientific-impact-of-a-nation-of-beavers/

Would be interested in your thoughts on this as well, even though it gets away from the crowdfunding issue. In writing about the Canadian NSERC model, I've been struck by how many of my American colleagues just find that model, or the idea that the US could switch to it, too stupid for words. Even though they all complain about the US system for all the reasons you raise.Jeremy Foxhttp://oikosjournal.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
