This article picks up on something that has been worrying about. Many academic journals have started to use
Google Scholar to link to other articles. There are similar, public databases -- like
PubMed -- but Google Scholar does a lot that others don't, probably has more coverage of articles. It's worrying to me, though, that a private company has so much control over our ability to find scientific content. And nobody seems to notice. I think I will have more to say about this later, as it links up with some thinking I'm having about dispersing scientific information.
