Falling further

The Boston Globe is reporting that one of the cases of misconduct faced by Marc Hauser (discussed earlier this week) is probably fabricating data.

The editor of the journal Cognition, which published one of the paers in question, is quoted as saying:

If it’s the case the data have in fact been fabricated, which is what I as the editor infer, that is as serious as it gets.

I think Hauser’s going to have to pack it in as an empirical scientist. I just don’t see a way back for him now. Which is a shame.
