Really, he’s a crayfish at heart:
This is the character Sawamori, featured in the Japanese television series Daimajin Kanon. Sawamori is a crayfish Onbake: a spirit that has been given a new existence because a human being cared deeply about it.
Oddly, although Japan has a native crayfish, in the story Sawwmori is described as beginning life as a crayfish from... Russia(!?). I have been unable to make a good guess as to which Russian crayfish species Sawamori might have been before becoming Onbake.
