Single use clothing

Mitch at Chemistry Blog describes his postdoc interview. He writes:

Lesson #3
You need to wear a suit.

I never get why academics insist on wearing clothes to an interview that they’ll never wear again if they get the job.

    Wear a suit? To a postdoc interview? That's ridiculous.

    Personally, I only feel comfortable with a tie, but as we all know, the dress code for scientists is casual.
